Rauscher Award
Emily Rauscher Award for Applied Research
The Edna Anderson-Taylor Communication Institute annually recognizes excellence in
applied research via the Emily Rauscher Award. Consistent with the Institute’s mission
to promote innovative research and serve as a crossroads for scholars, practitioners,
and broader communities to think together about how to best address societal problems,
this award celebrates a scholar who is doing outstanding applied research in communication,
journalism, or any closely related field. The awardee may be at any stage of career
but must have a strong record of applied research that directly engages with and benefits
an identifiable community (or multiple communities).
This award honors the memory of Dr. Emily Ann Rauscher, a talented scholar who passed away in 2019 shortly after joining the University
of Utah as an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication and an Investigator
at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Dr. Rauscher’s highly regarded research in health
communication and family communication, among other areas, reflected a deep commitment
to not just studying communities but to discovering and sharing knowledge that could
best serve those communities.
